Seeking Marriage details in respect of Mary (or Elizabeth) GRIEVE b Peebles 1826 she married Samuel PARKER b England c 1816. The marriage I believe took place in Hawick, Roxburghshire c 1846/7. Any details would be very much appreciated john.

I cant find anything from doing a quick search.
Did they have children? Were they born in Scotland, if so it should have date and place of the parents wedding on the birth certificate, which would help narrow it down a little.
Cheers Tx

There were 6 girls and 1 boy, 6 were born in scotland, 1 in england. I see Alcy's birth cert 1864 says '1846 july Hawick'. Thanks for your support. john.

'July 1946 Hawick' seems a little vague. Normally its an exact date. Its maybe worth getting more of the siblings certificates to see what they say, and if they tie up.
I've had a look on Scotlands People for you and free bmd (incase the marriage was in England and not Hawick) but nothing is coming up for Grieve/Parker any place or any time frame.
I had a similar problem, and I'm now convinced my g.g. grandparents didnt marry. They had children both sides of the border and stated a marriage date and place on the certificates, but it didn't actually happen. It was a lie in the name of respectability.
On the other hand its definitely worth contacting (or a visit if possible) the heritage hub in Hawick. Its a fantastic resource with very lovely folk that my sister has had lots of dealings with. I'm sure they will be happy to help you out with a missing marriage/ non run of the mill query.

Good Luck Tx

*Sparkle* Thanks you very much for being so helpful. I'm afraid I don't get about much these days. But I'll do what I can from here. Great to have met you. Best wishes. John.

Hi John
As you can see from the details Helen has provided, there doesn't appear to be any entries for the family prior to the start of official registration in 1855. BMDs before this date were recorded in the Old Parish Registers which were predominantly for the established Church of Scotland, ie Presbyterian. Your family may not have belonged to the church which could be one reason that you are not finding records before this date.
I would follow up on Sparkle's suggestion about contacting the Heritage Hub of Hawick. They may have access to other records not available on line.
Monica

John, I assume you have this family in the 1871 Census? If not, let me know and I'll post it. I know this doesn't help with the marriage I've had a look on the B.I.V.R.I. - 2nd edition, no luck there either, sorry. Helen
