Hi,
I've come up against a brick wall regarding my Great* Grandfather Thomas Stephenson (1783?-1836?).
From certs belonging to his son, John Stephenson (1809-1866) born in Easington Village, I know Thomas was married to Ann Shotton.
He married I believe in Brancepeth in 1804, Thomas Stephenson to Ann Shotton. However I can't determine where he was born or whom his father was as Thomas died before the 1841 census in Easington Village.
If anyone could help, that would be great.
Cheers
Ed

If you can find a baptism for one of their children between the marriage in 1804 and 1812 then, if the vicar has done his job correctly, you will be told what the parishes of origination were for both parents on the original register
In Brancepeth for example there are: Mary Stephenson c. 25 Dec 1804 and Frances Stephenson b 29 Sep 1806 c 26 Oct 1806. Both have the parents Thomas and Ann
This information was meant to be collected for all Anglican baptisms in Durham, Northumberland, and parts of Yorkshire from 1798 until 1812.
The marriage was 20 Feb 1804 by the way.
Hope this helps

Hi,
thanks for that :-)
I've found a Frances Stephenson (1807ish) who married a James Winskell in 1839... they appear in Easington in 1841 cesus and 1851 census... she gives her birthplace as Billy Row which is just outside of brancepeth, so looks like the correct Frances.

Hi,
From previous research I can tell you that Thomas & Ann Stephenson had the following children: Mary 1804/ Frances 1806/ John 1808/ Thomas 1813/ Shotton 1816.
At the time of France's baptism at Brancepeth in 1806, Thomas Stephenson is recorded as being 'of Billy Row, originally a native of Egglestone' and his wife Ann 'originally a native of Elwick'.
Hope this is of help, mim

Hi Ed
The Bishop's Transcripts of many parish registers have recently been available online by registering for the project at the following address:
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/
However over the last few days the website has been down 'pending a new release'
It might be worth while signing up if it starts up again.
