Bainton + Jarratt + Binks
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 10:44 BST (UK) »

Kia Ora
I have been tracking my great gran's family before & after she left Birmingham in 1878 bound for New Zealand.

One particular branch I traced forward to Maidenhead  Berks 1923- 1952.

I have now discovered that
Harry Brent BAINTON married Annie Victoria BINKS in Maidenhead in 1924. At some time after that they moved to Gloucester.

In  1979 I suspect they were joined by Edith Mabel JARRATT the half sister of Harry. Edith died late December 1980 in Gloucester. Aged 80.

Annie Victoria BAINTON died January 1984 Gloucester.
I am still searching for the death of Harry B Bainton born 1895. I suspect  he died in Gloucester.

I would love to know if Harry & Annie had children. Letters I have indicate there may have been one child at least - ** . I have a Christmas Card she drew as a child to share with family.

Queries
Is there anyone who may find these names familiar - if not related - perhaps a neighbour or friend?

Might there be  PO Directory/telephone book/Electoral roll  or similar about 1980- 1984  which might give a clue as to an address?

As I am hoping for contact with a living person please reply by PM if you have any information which might help me. Grin

There is family in New Zealand and Australia hoping to make contact.

Thank you
Marlene

i think the local libraries have electoral roles but it is serachable by address so unless you know where they lived you wouldn't find them
electoral roles are also available on findmypast (or 192) but i dont hink they cover the period you are looking for, but  i have never used the service myself so anyone is welcome to correct me  Grin

the BMD after 1983 and right up to 2005 is searchable like the 1866-1920 BMD so you may be able to find him that way.

hold on will have alook!

Hi Marlene

I think a trip to Gloucester Library is indicated - I believe they keep old phone books there.  Anyway I'll have a look when I'm in town.

Also perhaps old local newspapers may have the death records.  I can view these at the RO.

It costs around £30 to search Gloucester Cemetery and Crematorium records, even if you go there personally! Shocked

More in an email... Wink

Hi
Thanks everyone!
Moderator: Of course I have no idea if June is a living person or not!  I also have no idea if she married or perhaps died as a youngster!  I have oinly just found out she existed!

Toni: Just what I was doing before I had to sleep Grin Will get started again  tonight!

Gill: I'd be very grateful for any wee gem but I know you're busy with your own & other's research so no rush! I am just so excited there is a possibility that families might be reunited!
Thanks for the information about the search- quite amazing when Maidenhead provided a photo (unsolicited) as well as all the info  totally free of charge!

There are 3 octagenarians involved here who might be able to share  memories of their pioneer families if I can follow this through.
Regards

Hi Marlene (& Toni)

Nothing personal - it is Rootschat policy not to name people who are or might be still alive.

This prevents people from suddenly discovering details of their life on the internet without their permission.

As a general rule, don't put anything on the internet that you wouldn't want to see on the side of a bus.

Good luck with your search.

kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

I'm back again! Will start the search 1925-  for June and 1983 backwards for Harry's death.
Thanks for the offer Toni but it's such a boring task I couldn't inflict it on  any one else! I also want to keep an eye out for other family members along the way as I have so many families who are descended from my great greatgrandparents it's  a nightmare !
Both great granma & pa came from families of 8 siblings. They had 12 themselves in between clearing land, building a cottage, milking cows and Land Wars! No TV!

Can't escape having your life on the Internet these days Arranroots, long forgotten school friends post awful photos of your misspent youth, I have a namesake in America who keeps popping up, and even our Govt posts my name in lists!
Joy!
Cheers

Hi Marlene

A little bit of new information for you via the RO.

I searched the GRO index on fiche for the deaths which you gave and found that dates of birth were given, but just a Vol/Page ref for the deaths.  Anyway, you may not have them so:

Annie Victoria Bainton née Binks was born 23 Oct 1897 St Faiths, Norfolk
Edith Mabel Jarratt was born 28 Oct 1900 Fulham

The archivist told me that the phone books were available on Ancestry, and I found Harry B in the books between 1974 and 1980.   There was a bit of a gap then till 1984, or else I wasn't looking properly, but I found Annie V on her own at the same address in 1984, so at least that narrows his death year down to between 1980-84*.  However, Harry is being rather elusive, and I can't find his death anywhere in the UK, even with a wild card or phonetic search, can you?

Next time I'm in the RO I'll look at the deaths between 1970 and 1984 on the GRO fiche.  Ran out of time, as usual.

I'll send you a PM with their address.  How about a letter/email to the local rag, The Citizen? http://www.gloucestercitizen.co.uk/

Cheers

Gill Wink

*Of course,  Annie may not have changed the phone book entry immediately.

Kia Ora Gill
Thank you! I couldn't find Harry B's death either in the same time frame ! I looked because Edith Mabel Jarratt, his sister appeared to move there about 1979 and then died in Glos Dec Q 1980 - "her casket of cremated remains" were buried at Maidenhead, 16 January 1981.

So did she go to Glos to visit or for Harrry's funeral or to stay with her widowed sis in law!

I'll double check tonight ! Thanks awfully for the address and your time! I answered your Pm before reading this  Huh sorry!
regards
