Topic: Andrew Templeton Marriage circa 1888 (Read 577 times)

Please does anyone have any ideas as to how to identify a marriage between Andrew Templeton and Kate Johnson probably in the Paddington area during the period 1886 to 1889. I have tried Free BMD the GRO records without success. The only defenite facts I have to go on is a birth certificate for their son James born 7/5/1889 when they were living at 22 Warlock Rd Paddington District and the 1891 census, by which time they were living at 19 Kennet Road, again Paddington District, when Kate gives her place of birth as Paddington. At this time they were both aged 25.
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Is your Andrew the same Andrew James TEMPLETON age 29 who died dec Qtr 1896 - registered in St Giles?

Snap Willow ....I'll add, for elimination.....
The other couple on that same page are: Edward Henry HODGES and Maria FURNEAUX.
They are together on the 1901 Census in Middlesex as Edward H. and Marie HODGES- her birth as abt 1871 St Pancras (and she is found as such, as Maria FURNEAUX with her parents in the 1881).

I guess it could also be a double whammy ie: Andrew was the one who was not free until 1896, while Katherine was born officially to a JOHNSON mother who later married a HULME (who may or may not have also been her biological father) - or vice-versa

I could only find one Kate Johnson in 1881 census (RG11 670 14 21) who was bn Paddington, and she happily marries in 1894 to neither a Hulme nor a Templeton.
no success yet with Kate or Katherine Hulme in 1881

That could be so too, Willow  but my money is on them being right couple on FreeBMD - his age on 1891 looks like 25 to me (not 28 as is indexed) which would make him born around the 1867 mark, which would be in keeping with a death in 1896 age 29......

AL those many AT's in Scotland to wade trhough first, grrr
I also think it's possible our Kate was not 21 in 1891....I reckon more like 26 (I think) or 28 - the enumerator has merrily put his big X-check marks through the ages, but don't you think the number underneath for Kate has a bit of a loop at the bottom, like a 6 or an 8 (or possible a 3 or 5 but I think it's too narrow for it to be one of those 2)....
