Robert PATEN, was born about 1726 (son of Thomas & Ann) His family were believed to be freeholders of the town and have been active in local politics since 1650's. . .though nothing can be found.
In his early 20's, Robert already had property in Aylesbury. and became an licensee of The Kings Head Inn, cannot find any evidence of this - how would one find this information?
I thought if a certain family was well known etc, in the town / village they were from, then information about them would be easy to locat and obtain, but I have found it not to be.
Robert's grand-son, Robert Paten (jnr) born 1787 had something to do with supplying water to London from Bushey Hall Meadows 1840's - he also was employed by then the Royal Family and the Government - though once again no evidence of Rober Paten (b. 1787) doing this.
If anyone - can help where to obtain such information regarding the PATEN family of Buckinghamshire - would be appreciated.

You need to be careful how you interpret the term "innholder" or "inholder" at this time. It often means no more than he lived on the land which he held probably by copyhold. Since you name the inn it is probably irrelevant in this case but it cannot on its own be treated as proof that he was an Inn Keeper.
