MARY HARRISON/LIGHTFOOT/SEFTON- the Disappearing Aunt

Hi

Mary (b approx 1892 probably in Birmingham area)  was the daughter of Samuel (d 1904) and Ruth (d 1901) Harrison who were canal boat people.  She was adopted buy a Coventry family called Lightfoot who I believe were butchers (or possibly green grocers)

She married a man called Sefton and had 2 sons Albert and another who died as a child).

I have been unable to trace Mary - I am not sure if her name was changed and am wondering if there would be any adoption records kept at that time.

Does anyone have any directories of Coventry which may list trades people?

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you think there is a possiblility she may have gone to live with a married sister or other relative?

Do you have Samuel on 1901 census?  If not do you know when and where he was born so we can have a look for him?

P.S.  I think I have found him on a canal boat in Hertfordshire b. 1866 Tipton.

I've done a bit more digging and may have another name to throw in to the pot  Roll Eyes

Do you know when Ruth and Samuel married?  I have found a couple in 1897 in Oldham - Ruth's maiden name was BRIERLEY.  If the birth date for Mary was 1892 perhaps she was born Mary BRIERLEY there is a registration for the birth of Mary BRIERLEY in Oldham district in 1892.

In 1901 a Mary BRIERLEY aged 11? b. Oldham is working as a servant in Fulham London.

May all be totally wrong but might be worth looking in to.

Do you know when Albert SEFTON was born - his birth registration may give his mother's maiden name which could help?

Hi Guys

Firstly, thank you for your help and interest.

I have a lot of information on Samuel and Ruth Harrison:

Samuel b 2.5.1866 in Tipton, Birmingham - died 1904 - Manchester

Ruth Bradshaw b 1870 Tipton - died 1901 in Watford

they married 1891 in Birmingham

I have the 1901 census for Samuel - he was in Rickmansworth described as a widower working on the canals.

The sisters of Mary,  Ann, Sarah and Teresa (aka Thirza) were at no 22 The Ham, Brentford with James and Hannah Harrison on the 1901 census. James was Samuels brother

It is a viable thought that Mary (aged about 9) in 1901 could well be with other relatives and I will go down that route.

Albert was born around 1923.   I suspect she married jusst before that.
Does anyone know of Coventry Butchers/ Green grocer  called Lightfoot?
