Hello there!
Does anyone know if the Pilot's records for the River Wear are still in existence, and if so, where they are kept?
I am interested in the period from about 1790 to 1850.
Many thanks
Ashley

Hi Ashley, According to http://www.centres.ex.ac.uk/cmhs/ELMAP/location.php?loc_id=54
Tyne and Wear Archives Service now have;
Papers of Sunderland Pilotage Authority (including Pilotage Commission Wear Pilotage Board), comprising minute book, 1871-7; pilot ruler's scrapbook, 1893-97; correspondence, 1818-1970; register of pilots, 1813-1947; wrecks register, 1876; cash books, 1914-70; misc. papers on pilot boats, 1924-36, n.d., including correspondence. So it looks like they have added the records from 1813 to 1871
