I'm looking for a detailed map of Torphichen parish, in particular I'm trying to locate Hillhouse Farm, my problem being that I've found two (one approx. NW of Armadale and another near Beecraigs Country Park) perhaps one of them is outside the parish solving my problem.
I'd go with the one to the NW of Armadale. Play around with the map options - select - 'zoom in' then hover your mouse with the hand symbol over the map and click to zoom in or pan as required.
Use both the 20th Century New Popular and the 19th Century : OS First series
It's definitely on the 19th C one.
Hope that's of use :O)

Go to http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_2nd_ed_list.html Select Sheet 31 - Airdrie. Torphicen is the green-coloured parish about midway up, close to the east of the map. Click on that to zoom in on it. Towards its SW end, you will find Hillhouse Farm, NW of Armadale - within Torphicen parish.
Go to http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_2nd_ed_list.html Select Sheet 32 - Edinburgh Linlithgow is the yellow-coloured parish that is cut through by the west edge of this map just above the centre line. Click on that to zoom in on it and you will find Hillhouse Farm between Linlithgow and Riccarton - within Linlithgow parish.
So the one NW of Armadale is definitely the one to go for, to be within Torphicen parish.
