KERIVIN Help please
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 22:20 BST (UK) »

Hi, this may seem a bit random & desperate (and I agree it is!) but I would be grateful of an opinion on this  if you saw the name EDWARD KERIVIN what nationality would you think the gent in question is?? I'm starting to think my Irish ancestors were from further afield.  I have had zero success in tracing my Kerivin family in Kilkenny Ireland so clutching at straws & trying to think of different angles (other than surname corruption which I know is the most likely reason for my failings but Ive had no success with any of the suggested alternative spellings either)
Thanks
Nic.

Hi

Have you tried putting the surname into www.familysearch.org

It throws up 2 in the USA and 2 in Canada but spelt Kerivan

The 1880 US census has a lot of entries for that surname

The 1851 English census has 15 Kerivan entries - all b Ireland

Offhand - I would also think Kerrigan as I have never heard of the surname Kerivin - but that's just me
