In 1916 my maternal great-grandfather shot and killed a policeman during the Easter rebellion. He escaped to America, where he became a fire fighter in Boston US. Some years later his wife, my great grandmother left Ireland to find him. When she eventually arrived in Boston where there were three of his sisters working as nurses, she discovered he had been killed fighting a tenement fire while she was on her voyage to the States. I am hampered to an extent that my mother, his grandchild has vascular dementia, and although her recall of her early years is often excellent, there are gaps, and also this is the account she was given when she was a child by her grandmother and maybe there were details she has forgotten. i am fascinated by this story, and would like to find out more about my great grandfather before he left Ireland for the States and after he arrived there, and even find his grave that I can visit in Boston. I am new to this, so I'd appreciate any tips from people with more experience at tracing relatives.
