The line my fiancee is descended from lived near the Cartway and were Blacksmiths but Tonkiss seems a popular ame round that area and was looking if anyone had any information on these. The earliest I have is a John Tonkiss born 1822, him and his family moved to Wolverhampton in the late 1850's early 1860's
Your John was married at St. Mary’s church, Bridgnorth on 19 March 1843.
John TONKISS, Full age, Bachelor, Blacksmith of St. John’s Street Bridgnorth. Father = William TONKISS – Labourer. to Mary PIGEON, Full age, Spinster, Servant of West Castle Street. No Father stated.
St Mary’s Parish register gives the Christening of the above John TONKISS on 10 May 1819. Son of William & Sarah – Labourer of Town Mills, Bridgnorth.
