« on: Friday 04 April 08 12:32 BST (UK) »

I was told my grandmother that she was told by her grandmother that her great grandfather came from holland. So i researched the family tree back and found this relative who is called moses gambles and was born in 17-- hundred. How do i find more information about him? He is in the last cencus 1831? but can't find him in any others.

Where was he living in the (1841?) census? Does it say in that that he was foreign-born?

You need to find out as much as you can about him in the UK - so, if he was in the census, death certificate. Are there other people from Holland living in the same area? Which churches did the family use? Was his occupation something you might be able to track?

He was living in finningley and yes it does say he was foreign born. His occupation was argicultural laborer and i was told that he came over to this country to drain the marshlands. His son and grandsons are on the same street but i don't know what church they used.
