George Hotel - Dewsbury?
« on: Friday 04 April 08 18:35 BST (UK) »

Does anyone know of the George Hotel located on Moorand Lane in Dewsbury in 1914?  My grandmother was born in the hotel and her father is listed as an Innkeeper, but I have not been able to find any information regarding the Hotel.  Also, I have not been able to find information on my great-grandparents if anyone can help.  Tom Chamley Patterson married Evelyn Batty between 1900-1918.  I have no birth or death information either.  Nothing online, and I am in New York and unable to search in person.  Any help would be appeciated.  Thank you.

The 1881 census (free to search at several sites, among which www.familysearch.org) shows Thomas Hume Patterson at 12 Wellington Place in Halifax. Occupation Cashier & Director. His birth place is Haddingtonshire, Scotland and he's widowed, age 39.

I've found out where the 'Chamley' comes from!  Wink

Mary Elizabeth Kilner's mother was Ann Chamley (who married Daniel Fearon Kilner in 1853)

I can trace the Kilners back a little if you want (when you're ready!)

Ann Chamley's birth (remember she was in her eighties in 1901, born Kendal Westmorland) is on the IGI if you want to have a go at searching www.familysearch.org  Cool

Hi

I am researching the Kilner family and obtained a copy of "The descendants of James and Ann Kilner" which led me to T C Patterson and Joseph Waddington. Have you any info you could provide me on the Kilners.

Thanks

Hi Malcolm - Welcome to RootsChat  Cool

Are you related to McCann then?  Cheesy

Just having a quick look at this again. We were tracing Mary Elizabeth Kilner, daughter of Daniel Fearon Kilner and Ann Chamley. A quick look at census shows me Daniel Fearon's mother was Clementina.

There's a member-submitted IGI record showing Daniel Fearon's father as William and mum Clementina Satterthwaite. I'd take it with a pinch of salt because Daniel's birth place is stated as Westmorland when all census returns have him born London  Undecided

Where do James and Ann fit in, and who are you looking for?  Smiley
