What an interesting man. Looks like he is officially Alexander Walpole Roland. The Now in Detroit, must have been to visit his daughter.
There is a late birth October 26, 1878 in Algoma District, Ontario for Constance Wapole Roland in Green River that was their permanent address at the time of her birth. The birth was a late registration July 5, 1947 done via a notary Ruth Barrow of Chicago, Ill. Contance was married when she registered her birth - Constance Pratt with address 5747 Linwood, Detroit, MI Parents: Alexander Walpole Roland (father) 40 born India, trade: civil engineer, employed for self Isabel Watt Roland (mother) 22 born Quebec
Another child, female was born to Alexander Walpole Roland and Isabel Watt on January 20th, 1881 not named. He signs A. Walpole Roland, with residence Prince Arthurs Landing. Registered in Algoma District. Update: child named Olive. Dies July 5, 1882 bronchitis. Residence at time Prince Arthurs Landing
Another child, Isabella Grace born 22 April 1887. Residence at time, Tupper St., Port Arthur and occupation surveyor. Isabella Grace died August 18, 1889 in Thunder Bay District, Division of Port Arthur.
I'm looking for his death in Ontario; however, no so easily spotted.
Cheers, Linda

Ok Thanks for linking.
One thing you can be sure of, is that he died in 1931 as per the Library of Congress catalogue record:
Personal Name: Roland, Walpole, d. 1931.
According to cataloguing rules they would have had to have a source for this information to have included it in the record. Not sure how reputable the other site with {CA} 1931 MAR 30, but it looks promising.

Hello Annie
If he died March 30, 1931, the funeral most likely would have been in April and wouldn't you know it, April isn't indexed for this newspaper: http://www.elginogs.ca/newsindexes/timesjournal/index.htm

I suggest you ask the librarian at St. Thomas Public Library (Elgin County) to check for a newspaper obit for you. I know that they did that for someone else, at my suggestion, and sent the obit to her. It's possible that the newspapers for that month have not survived, which is why they are not indexed, but the librarian will know. Failing that, I would try the London Free Press, in London, Ontario. London is very close to St. Thomas, and is a much larger centre. No matter where he died, it's likely the local paper(s) carried the obit, for one of such an age! http://www.st-thomas.library.on.ca/index.php/Home/Index adultdept@st-thomas.library.on.ca http://www.londonpubliclibrary.ca/askus/
