LEAVER Family/BURNINGHAM
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 11:48 BST (UK) »

Could some kind soul do a look up at Reading St Giles Parish church to see if a marriage which I believe took place in 1857 between Betsy Leaver and Thomas Burningham shows whether Thomas had any other forenames, or if Betsy remarried as according to records Thomas (the older by a many a year) died the same year and thinking that Betsy may then have remarried either his son/brother going by the name of John.

Betsy was christened in Reading St Giles on 24th October 1830 where her family all resided.

I did ask the Berk Genealogy association regarding the parish records cd but as yet no response as to whether this cd actually covers 1830.

Forever grateful

John Birmingham 40 Joiner bn London
Betsy 31 bn Reading
JAne 10 dtr bn Reading
Frederick 2 son bn America

So - could this marriage have taken place in America?

Hi Ann,

I hadn't realised that Berks FHS have issued a CD for St Giles, Reading - I see from their website that it was hot off the press in March this year.

I agree, though, it doesn't really make it very clear as to which years are covered. When you're spending £10+ it would be nice to be sure. I might be persuaded to part with my money if I knew what the coverage is!  Undecided

Can anyone from Berks FHS help us out here?

Thanks everyone

Me is still flummoxed I at first (silly me) thought Birmingham an uncommon name its just like being called Smith.  I had thought that they could have married in America seeing as the twins (Frederick is my gg/father) were born there.  They all then show up on the 1861 census.  I have tried within my limited knowledge of tracing ancestors to locate John Birmingham or indeed Betsy Leaver on Ancestry's Immigration/Emigration search but to no avail.  I have even tried Castle Garden.Org and Ellis Island websites for passengers emigrating to USA.  On most of the census for Frederick he is in fact shown as being born in Toronto Canada and this indeed appears on his marriage certificate, but again I have indeed hit that brick wall.  Any............ even a crumb of a suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your sterling efforts so far.
