Lemington?
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 13:56 BST (UK) »

I am researching the Andrew's family on behalf of an elderly lady who cannot access the information herself.  One of her ancestors was Charles Andrews who in the early census records show him as being born about 1780 in Lemington? Dorset.  I cannot find this place, can anyone throw any light on this for me.

Thanks

Hello May

The image of the 1851 census look like Leamington to me.

If you Google Leamington, Dorset, you get several family trees from the 1600's and 1700's, with people born Leamington, Dorset and two roads in Dorset - one in Weymouth and one in Bournemouth.

It seems therefore it was a place in south Dorset once, probably "swallowed" by a larger town, although which - don't yet know!

Hope this helps

Hi May,

Could it be Lillington? It's a village in North Dorset, near Sherborne.

The IGI has a submitted record of a baptism of a Charles Andrews on 20 February 1780 at Lillington, Dorset.
