Iron Founder 1800`s Tweedmouth
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 15:58 BST (UK) »

Joseph Wilson c 1800 Berwick was an Iron Founder. Also Alexander Robertson b 1805, Berwick was an Iron Founder, employing 110 men and boys. I have the names Wilson, Robertson, Hastie and Tower in my tree and quite often the names appear as a mixture for an Individual; ie  John Alexander Tower Robertson ,or Robert  Tower Robertson Wilson . I have been researching this for a while and have not come up with a connection.
If anyone is researching any of these people i would be glad to hear from them.
How can i find out where the Iron Foundries were?

Please help
Regards, Nicola

Hi Nicola,
This is an interesting online book about Berwick in 1806 and places of ten miles radius. Look up p153 [there is a quick page finder] which has a sentence about the iron foundry. Find it at www.rgcairns.orpheusweb.co.uk/Berwick.
On old maps.co.uk you will find an 1862 map of Tweedmouth which shows a Tower Foundry. After looking at your post I see that someone you were looking for is Robert Tower Robertson Wilson so that is probably the building.
keystothepast mentions 2 foundries.
british-history.ac.uk says that there were 3.
Hope this helps.
