I recently purchased microfiche of Parish Registers of Kinver expecting to find burial entries of William Stringer and Elizabeth his wife. Although finding burial of 4yr old son John 1835 could not find burials of parents. No evidence of whereabouts on 1841 Census although son Thomas (my Grt.Grandfather)with half brother William appeared to be living in lodgings. Thomas age 12 A.Lab. Address at time of burial of John - Compton. Also address 1841 Census - Compton. Could someone tell me please if there is a Church at Compton and where I should be looking for burials. It appear children were baptised at Kinver. Many thanks for any help anyone is able to give. Syljun

Hi Syljun, I believe Compton came under the parish of Kinver (Kinfare) or Tettenhall. One possibility is St. Michael in Tettenhall, have a look here: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Tettenhall/index.html
Good luck

HI Syljun, I always find this site useful when I need to know where to look for a church, when you can't find a family where you expect them to be: http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/churches?CCC=LAN,GR=SO960900,DIST=4 Put in the name of the church where they live (in your case Compton) and select how may miles radius you want to search. I think you can also select which denomination, too. Hope this helps. Good luck. Paulene * I'ts not a complete list, but gives suggestions of where to try.

Hi Syljun, I have Stringer Ancestors from Rowley Regis Staffordshire. I haven't found a Kinver connection, but there maybe one going way back? Compton is about half a mile west of Kinver, as Paulene says your best bet is searching Genuki for nearest Parish Churches. Best Wishes from linell.

Morning Syljun ajd linell, Have you found the death entry for William and Elizabeth? I've found several possibilities, but could do with details regarding birth or marriage to narrow down the possibilities. Looked through the Staffs MI disc but nothing showing for them on there. Happy to try to help if you can provide more information, Syljun. Paulene

Hi Linell, Sorry for taking a while to get back - been busy looking at history of iron moulders, etc + doing jobs in between. Kinver came under Wolverhampton apparently - Compton isn't mentioned, but that may be because it was too small. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/wolverhampton.html Paulene

Thanks Paulene, yes Compton was just a hamlet, a few cottages and farms. Best Wishes from linell.

Hi All, Sorry haven't replied before but usually have a notification of messages but did not have any. My Stringer family seemed to have moved about a bit many years ago. Must have walked miles. I am looking for the burials of William Stringer and Elizabeth his wife. Not on 1841 Census and William deceased on son Thomas' Marr. Cert. 1849. William Stringer who I believe bap 1804 Colwich married Elizabeth Brice bap. 9th Dec. 1798 Kinver at Kingswinford 16th July 1824. The only deaths reg. before 1841 Census for a William and Elizabeth Stringer seem to be at Kidderminster but unless they moved there cannot understand why as on 1841 son Thomas age 12 was with brother in Compton, Kinver. Reluctant to send for death certs. until all other avenues nearer to home been investigated. I have enough 'wrong certs' to paper a room. Thanks for any help given. Syljun

Gene Genie there are three Comptons in Staffs. We are referring to the Kinver one not the Wolverhampton one, but thanks for your links. linell
