FAVEL(L) Family Lincs
« on: Tuesday 25 April 06 22:54 BST (UK) »

Hi guys...

Is anyone else researching Favel/Favell/Favill.
I have been through numerous IGI listings and now 1841 is online I have my found my 4xgrt grandfather.
In 1851 he gives his place of birth as -unknown Lincs.
His name was William Favell and he married Elizabeth Sadler in Hornby by Bedale in 1820. By 1831 they had travelled south to around Biggleswade area and by 1841 into Buckinghamshire.
Lots of Favel/Favells are in Lincs in the 1700's . Anyone out there share the name in the mists of time? Undecided

                   Thanks

Hi Denn..

Yes , my lot seem to stick to Favel/Favell. There is a large amount of the name in Bedfordshire in and around Renhold and Wilden ,north of Bedford. In Renhold some of the road signs carry the family crest.
My William seems to have travelled south via the great north road his elsest 2 sons were born in Biggleswade the next were born in Southill.
He does not seem to have gone to either of the villages  and states that he was born (somewhere ) in Lincs in the late 1700's (1780-1790).

Just thought that soooo many on IGI might throw up someone.
Have just done search as ...Favel... and sparkle has asked about them in Lincs before..will send her a p.m.

                      Thanks

I'm not sure, but you may find something here. Most variations seem to be covered,

Hi,

I have Favells from very close to Bedale in North Yorkshire, going back into the 1700s. Is it possible that your William belonged to the Yorkshire lot but was born out of the county. Do you know what he did for a living? If his was a farm labouring background, it is possible that his parents moved around according to the availability of work.

Just a thought.

  Hi Jen.....

Nice to hear from you.

My William was a Brazier. I have him in 1841 in Little Brickhill in Bucks. He gives his age as 45 (rounded) and states not born in county. With him is wife Elizabeth (nee Sadler) n.b in.c and children...James 15,William 12, Catherine10,Mary 8, Patunia 5, Comfort 5& Thomas 2.
The two eldest are not born in county but Catherine onwards are.
I would love to find out more about him as at the moment he is my most travelled my Underwood run a close second.

Have you tried the North Yorkshire board to see if there is anyone who could check the parish registers for Hornby by Bedale. I will be going to the North Yorks Record Office at some time but can't guarantee that it will be in the next few weeks. If there is a record of the marriage, it should say whether William and Elizabeth Sadler actually belonged in that parish and also there may be some witness names which could help in deciding whether or not they were local.

Is he still alive in 1861? What does that census say. Come to think of it, does the 1851 say where Elizabeth was born?

There were several William Favells ( sp various) born in Lincolnshire in the late 1700s, as you probably know. I should obviously be interested to know whether or not thay were connected with mine in North Yorkshire. If you hear anything more, do let me know.

Cheers,

Jen

You star..... Grin  They are there in Dorset 1861/1871...and still looking.

Instead of Leighton Buzzard Beds in 1871 she's down as
Laten Buggon Berks ....so would never have gone down that route.

Thanks for coming up with a great lead after a such a while. I will be exploring all the new rellies this has found .

                      Cheers
