I thought I would look on this site for Emeline Meillear (Meilleur) who married into the Weller family in 1855. Unfortunately not long after the marriage her husband was killed in an argument over a horse (so the family story says) Marihelen

Thank you for trying to help me with this. I have a copy of my great grandmother's birth certificate and it says she was Frances Maria Smith, born in 21st May 1865, Mile End Old Town, and her father was John Joseph Smith, dock labourer, and where it says - name, surname and maiden surname of mother it has - Emmeline Smith late Weller formerly Meillear
Thanks, Marihelen

Do you know I think that could be Emmeline, with her name shortened. Her daughter Frances was my grandmother's mum, who apparently made and sold feather brushes (feather dusters). Marihelen

Don't know of any Rudducks in the family. The story that has been passed down through the family is that Emmeline married a Romany (it was said that she too was a romany, but I don't know) and that they went to a Horse fair and her husband had a fight with another romany and was killed. Emmeline than remarried a John Joseph Smith and John Joseph seems to have been a name passed down, Frances named one of her sons John Joseph and in turn my dad was a John Joseph. His mother was an Elizabeth shortened to Lizzie. I have knowledge of Frances downwards, but I am trying to go back in time now. Attached is an old photo of Frances Maria Smith daughter of Emmeline Marihelen

Hi
What a great photo ! you are very lucky to have it
I can't seem to find your Frances Maria and family in 1881.
I do believe we are on the right track but to have peace of mind I would order the marriage cert of Emeline to Richard Weller, using her references. At least then you would have her father's name and occupation.
Emeline Meillear Sept q 1851 , Lambeth surrey vol 5 b 287 ..she is the odd one out on the page ...doing a cross reference with the surname "Weller' we find : Henry Richard Weller Sept q 1851, Lambeth, London, Surrey vol 4 p 287

Hi Marihelen
I hope the marriage cert will confirm everything ...who did Frances maria marry and when ...?
I have followed the Rudducks through to 1841 and cannot find a connection ...maybe the 1861 census just refered to Sarah Mellear/Meillear as being the mother of Emily/Emeline Weller.
Another intereseting thought is that Emily/Emeline/Emma in 1861 still refers to herself as being married , alhough her Gypsy Weller husband is already dead !
where is she in 1881 and where are the children ? ... i do so love a mystery
