Hi All,
I'm trying to tie up some loose ends and struggling! I have the following:
William PENNELL born 1855 baptised at Everton as William Done PENNELL (grandmother's maiden name DONE).
In 1861 he is with the family at Childwall St, West Derby, RG9 2727/92 Page 34. His father was also William PENNELL but he had died before the census.
I can't find him in any later census records but have found a tantalising report of a death by suicide in 1893 that looks as if it could be him (right age, right area etc.) but I can't find any William PENNELL that fits on the census.
The report says that he had previously lived with his sister at 10 Binns Road, Fairfield. He had two sisters, Mary Ellen born 1856 and Florence born 1860. I think that Florence married George Lythgoe in 1886 (RG12 2169/24 Page 45) so I'm looking for Mary Ellen (who I think married the main witness at the inquest, David Laidman, in 1893).
I can't find Mary Ellen PENNELL in the 1891 census either (1881 RG11 3715/52 Page 22) and it doesn't look as if she had been previously married. Mother Annie E died 1887 and brother Frederick 1885.
I'd be very grateful for a fresh pair of eyes on this! Thanks for any help,
Jean

Might William have left the area?
I have found a William Pennell in 1881, in Wolverhampton of all places.
79, Cannock Road, William Pennell, age 26, head, Retired Licensed Victualler, Gentleman, born Liverpool Horacey Pennell, wife, 22, born Dawley, Shropshire Horacey Pennell, 3, dau, born Manchester
I will have a look for them in 1891 to see if there are any more clues.
Jen

Could be him, thank you for that - what on earth do you think that first name should be?! I can't find any births or marriages that fit so far.......

Sorry to be away for a while, I have just found them by finding the ennumeration district containing Binns Road and trawling through page by page. Phew!
RG12 2999/26 Page 45
Sadly this seems to prove that this William is the one found in Newsham Park after drinking carbolic acid..... and belongs to my family line.
He is shown as single so presumably not the same one as in Wolverhampton although I'd still love to know what that name is supposed to be!!
Thanks for all your help with this, I do appreciate it.
