Do u think this couple stayed in Durham? How old r they? Any Children? Where were they born etc...I have tried both Charles Thorney and Charles Doonan and am not coming up with a single one anywhere in Durham in th 1891 census! Kris

She married Charles THORNEY march 1882 ( 10b 501 ) in a village called Berwick and is in the DURHAM registry. I can't find a Berwick in Durham though. They appear to have moved to Dorset not long afterwards. The Thorneys, I have found out, came from Walford Herefordshire. I think that Mary was my greatgrandmother and I know nothing about her. Sometimes the interpretation of names on Ancestry. com leaves a lot to the imagination of the compiler as I have found recently that members of the THORNEY family had the spelling PHORNEY associated with them. Thanks to all for the interest.

I too have found a link back to South Shields as Mary Ann's mother Ann appears to have been born there in 1839. Her Dad John seems to have been born in 1837. The 1881 census says he was born in Blackhill, Consett Co Durham. whilst the 1871 census says Newcastle. Hope this helps you.
