It seems that Thomas J Jones' mother died and thats why he was staying with his uncle in subsequent censuses.

On National archives there is this document refering to a Thomas Jones of Ilfracome a Cordwainer ..I wonder if this may be for Richard's father as Boot and shoe making seems to run in the family
