Hello Colin,
Ireland wasn't a Foreign or Commonwealth country so John Murly's reason for being in Dublin may have been related to his knowledge of ports.
The history of Dublin Port dates from 1707 and the Port Archives are held at the National College of Ireland.
The other possibility is that he had family connections in Dublin.

Hi Colin,
John could have been in Dublin on business but that leaves the question ... why was he buried in Dublin?

I dont know if you've already seen this but he appears to be listed in Slaters commercial direcory of 1870 in the 'Contractors' section :
Honse & Gardner [government & railway store], 22 Lwr.Ormond quay, & at 9 Oswald st. Glasgow, & 26 Deagate, Manchester— John Murly, district manager
no sign of any other Murly entries in that year..
