Marriage Croyden 1837/9

Can anyone help with a marriage in Croyden between
George EVANS b 1816 in Lambourne Berks and Mary ?  b 1816 from Croyden some time around 1837 to1839.
Their first child, Mary was born 1839

Any help appreciated

Sorry. they aren't listed on-line from Sept 1837 to Dec 1839; not in Croydon anyway.
If the marriage was before Sept 37 you will need to get a parish register look-up.

If the marriage was before Sept 37 you will need to get a parish register look-up.

Just a tiny clarification here.  If the marriage was before July1 1837, then you need to check parish registers.  What Rian meant was, civil registration began with the July, August, September quarter of 1837 & that would be your beginning when searching  Wink

George Evans married Mary Pursey in October 1836, (sorry no day on the Surrey Marriage Index) at Croydon.

It doesn't mention which parishes they came from.

Kerry can I be cheecky and ask if you have info on the Croydon area, any chance you can look for a Charles HAMILTON b 1818 in Croydon who married an Augusta.S.?
b 1818 from Egham.

I checked the Surrey Marriage Index but they don't appear on it.  Now according to the 1861 census return he was born in Lambeth so it could be that they married in a London church not on the SMI.

Thanks again Kerry, on the 1871 and 1881 census he states he was born in Croydon, have not looked at 1861,. so will keep looking

I was intrigued to see a Hamilton marriage to a Spong. I have one of those also about 1860.
