Marian Louisa F Jones
« on: Sunday 06 April 08 14:28 BST (UK) »

Marian is aged 1 year in the 1901 census. Her place of birth is given as Derby. I can not find any reference to her registration. Is it possible that someone could search the local records for her birth and/or baptism?  Her mother, Emma Elizabeth Jones, nee Fell came from Essex.  What happened to her.
I would be very grateful for any help on this elusive relation.

Thank you. That was quick.  Now all I need to know is what happened to her and her mother.

Do you have the marriage details for mother Emma?

Not exactly. I have found a marriage which I am 90% sure is correct: Dec/4 1898 Emma Elizabeth Fell to William Alfred Jones. Pancras.
The Emma Elizabeth Jones in the 1901 census is certainly correct as she was born Tolleshunt Darcy in Essex.  Quite what she was doing in Derby I don't know. Also where her husband was.

Yes, that's the marriage I spotted. I'm looking for him on the census - maybe he's from Derbyshire?

I tried the 1891 and the best I could do was a William Jones 33 St Pancras Ostler. Of Emma I could find no record!  In 1901 there was a William Jones 43 b. St Pancras  Stableman.
If these are corract why isn't he in Derby with Emma?   This Fell family has proved very elusive in many ways, especially the females.

Emma Fell was a servant in Aldershot 1891:

27 Grosvenor Rd, Aldershot

EMMA E. FELL  Servant  S  23  Domestic Servant 'Cook'  b. Tolleshunt Darcy Essex

Doesn't really help though

Do you know who she was working for?  Aldershot isn't exactly next door to St Pancras.

WILLIAM B. WOODHAM and his family. Army man, b. Winchester. They seemed to have moved about some so she could have gone to London with the household I guess?

I have just had a brainwave.  A look at my records shows that Emma's brother Ernest Edward was a soldier and in the 1891 census he was stationed at Aldershot!! He gave his birthplace as Kelvedon which is shorter than Tolleshunt Darcy.
I am now going to see if by any chance, William Alfred Jones was a soldier.
Fingers crossed
