Amongst all my Parish Record collection, one set I don't have are the ones for North Weald Bassett.  Sad

If anybody has access to them I wonder if they could look up some baptisms for me so that I can sort out a dubious relationship?  Roll Eyes

There are 4 children born between 1875 and 1881. John Green 1875, Joe Green 1876/7, Clara Green 1879 and George Green 1881. Their mother is Clara Green but what I want to know is, were these children illegitimate (if so, is there a fathers name?) or was she married to someone at the time?

I really hope I can sort this mystery out!!

Hi Diblet,

  On 1881 census William Ray is living with family and his name is down as head of

  family and also father of children. His age is 45. Maybe you will have to send for childrens

birth cert as this would comfirm this.

  Here is ref  for 1881  RG11/ 1737 / 100/ 8

  Maybe she married him after children were born

    1891 North Weald

William Ray head age 54 as occ says allowed by parish
Clara Ray wife age 38
John Ray son age 16 ( on viewing census imsge John is down as Green) occ gen lab
Joseph Ray son age 14
Clara Ray dau age 12
George Ray son age 10
Charles Ray son age 7
Mabal Ray age 5

All b North Weald. John is the only one with surname Green.

   RG12/ 1363/ 97/ 7

Clara Green married William Ray just after the 1881 census, so I know that the children after then are definitely his.

It's the ones before that that I'm interested in. I suspect they are his but because illegitimate, had to take Green as their surname.

So that's why I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to look at the PR's for me........ Cheesy
