Hello

Looking on a census return a place of birth is listed as Sipperton, Worcestershire, is there/was there such a place?  I'm thinking it is supposed to be Tibberton, but not 100% sure.

Hi

I had a quick look on Genuki and could only see this

TIBBERTON, a parish in the middle division of Oswaldslow hundred, county Worcester, 4 miles S. of Droitwich, its post town, 4½ N.E. of Worcester, and 2 N. of the Spetchley railway station. The village is situated near the Worcester and Birmingham canal. Gloves are made. The living is a vicarage annexed to that of Bredicot, in the diocese of Worcester. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The parochial charities produce about £4 per annum, besides a poor's house. A schoolroom has been built, which opens into the church on the N. side

Can you post the link/reference number for the census

Hi Kate,
Probably isn't - but I just typed 'sipperton worcestershire' into aol search engine and it came up with 'shepperton worcestershire'.
Look forward to seeing the census entry.
Kind regards,

Hello,

Thanks for that.  Link to the 1881 census is :
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=12102281

Was looking for Williams birth really.  Previous censuses have him as born in Martley, Worcester.  But there was a possible birth on IGI born 1833 in Tibberton, so I thought maybe the year of birth was a few years out.  Back to the drawing board I think!

Hi again,
Think probably Tibberton is your best bet - I definitely think the first letter is a T rather than an S. And the middle letters would be easily mis-heard as a p rather than a b sound, especially to someone who didn't know Worcestershire.
Good luck,

Hopefully someone will find his birth to confirm - I tried but couldn't find it.
Trouble is the area round there chops and changes counties so. I know because I'm tracking ancestors in Dudley Port, Tipton, which is Staffordshire, but borders Worcestershire.
Hopefully someone will track him down.

On the IGI I can see a William Knight, parents Thomas and Mary Knight, 18 Aug 1833 Tibberton, if he was born before 1837 it makes it harder -  Huh

Kate,
I've just found what I think is William and Louisa's marriage:
Marriages Jun 1860
Knight William & Nutting Louisa
District: Dudley  Vol: 6c   Page 35
If it was me I'd get the marriage certificate to see what age it gives for him there - that's if you haven't got it already!
There's always a possibility the age is wrong, but there's also a chance it could be right and allow you to pinpoint the correct birth.
