OK - I'm back! 
Regulars on this board might have noticed my posts regarding Pashby, Dobson, Bird et alia, but THIS one is still causing mighty problems! 
I cannot find the family of John Dobson anywhere at all in the 1861 census. In the past, the good people on here have searched almost every area as far as we know, but all to no avail. So I've had this idea - I don't know if it will work, or if it is even possible, but I wonder if it is worth searching for Faith ** using her birthplace and age as keywords?
Here's what I know ...
- 1819 April: Born Faith Chapman in Scalby, Scarborough
- 1841 census: living in Lott’s Yard, Scarborough with brother(?) William (HO107/1266/7 Folio: 11 Page 18)
- 1845: married John Dobson on 28th January in the Parish Church of St. Mary, Hull, volume 22 page 303
- 1845: living in Blanket Row, Hull (according to marriage certificate)
- 1851 census: living at 12 St John Street, Scarborough, North Yorks. with two lodgers (HO107/2368 Folio: 144)
- 1861 census: ??
- 1871 census: living in Victoria Road, Scarborough (RG10/4816 folio 57 page 14)
- 1881 census: living at 5 Brookland Terrace, Scarborough (RG11/4803 Folio: 12 page: 15)
- 1891 census: living at 2 Alma Parade, Scarborough (RG12/3964 Folio: 109 Page: 10) with two lodgers
- 1895: living - and dying!! - at 37 Murchison Street
Therefore ...
In 1861 she would be 40 years old, from Scalby, Scarborough; that ties in with her ages of 30 and 50 in 1851 and 1871. She also gives Scalby as her birthplace on both of those documents, and in 1861 she would also have with her ...
- son JOHN WILLIAM DOBSON, aged 12 and born in Scarborough
- daughter EMILY ANN DOBSON, aged 8 and also born in Scarborough
- son CHARLES DOBSON who would be 6 years old, and born in Scarborough
- and, of course, the untraceable husband, JOHN DOBSON born 1818 in Edinburgh, Scotland (dealer in woollen cloth/clothier)
SO ...
Is it possible to search using just the first name Faith and the birthplace and age?
