Hello again,
  I found treasure on my doormat in the form of the birth certificate for   Elizabeth Mabel Breeds. Her fathers name was John Robert and her mother was Alice Breeds formerly Knight.
  She was born at 11 Hill street St Clement Hastings and I find this interesting as when she was married, her & frederick lived next door at number 12 wear some if not all their children were born.
I hope to get their marriage cert soon,so I look forward to finding out more about Fred. I do not know weather to now look for Alice Knight or John Robert Breeds?This is definitely addictive.

Hi

I don't believe this - I've just checked freebmd and there were 3 John Robert Breeds born in Hastings - 1864/1870/1878

So I then checked the 1901 and there is a John R Breeds with a wife Alice

Living at Rear of 3 Browne St Hastings

John R Breeds 30 b Hastings - Yachtsman (sea)
Alice 28 b Surrey Caple
Annie 5 b Hastings

So he must be the 1870 birth which was

John Robert Breeds September qtr 1870    Hastings Volume: 2b 
Page: 16 

Per freebmd - John Robert Breeds married Alice Knight September qtr 1893 Hastings Vol 2B  Page 39

Hello everyone, I am so sorry to have caused confusion.I was very excited to receive my first certificate that I looked anywhere to see what else was around.
Please can you tell me ,If I click on the reply button will I only be repling to the last person to answerer or to everyone who has helped me? I would like to thank Carole W & pels for all their help and new information. Also rjknott for being the first to welcome me & offer help.I have also chatted to foxglove on her quest for Breeds.
Do I just reply to Hastings help from now on? I am going to write down all my new information before it gets to confusing.Thanks again & sorry again

Don't worry - these things happen

When you posted the reply about receiving the birth cert on your old request - it triggered a notification to anybody who had replied.  When I received the notification - I started "digging"  again

Because you then posted a new request which I did not know about - others started to answer it and that resulted in a duplication of info

It should all be sorted soon as I have asked for your new post to be merged with this one for continuity.

Just keep replying on this post for now so we have the background to work from

Hi, Thank you for sorting things out.
Hope to chat some more Especially when I get Elizabeth & Fred's marriage certificate. Mean while i have got two new surnames to contemplate now with knight and Harman, thats just on the Breeds side , we haven't even started on the Richardsons yet! Oh dear i am hooked.

Hi , More treasure from the postman today!!
  I now have the marriage cert for Frederick & Elizabeth.Fred was 22 when they married, they both lived at 28 swetenham ? Place  Plumsted. Fred's fathers name was Edward Richardson. Edward was a motor mechanic, Frederick was a general laborer & Elizabeth was a laundry maid.
  I wonder why Elizabeth left hastings & ended up in Plumsted only to move back to hastings soon after?This is exciting,if their daughter Betty M was born in march 1928 she may have been pregnant when they married.If family tales are right there may have already have been a child before the marriage unless Betty was a twin. I  have always been led to believe that two of Elizabeth's children were born before 1929.
Are there usually more questions than ansewers ??

Hi

Frederick was born around 1905 and without knowing his birthplace - there are lots of Frederick Richardson births around that time

I tried to check the 1901 for Edward Richardson and decided to use the PRO index as it shows occupations alongside the entry but although I used advanced search and asked for a 5 year search either side of 1880 - it's coming up with no results

This is rubbish as Ancestry shows 138 matches so can only assume there is a problem with the PRO website

Here's the link to the site so you can perhaps try later and see if one is shown with occupation mechanic

Hello again, I have tried the national archives to find Edward but if he is on them he is not listed as a motor mechanic., the closest thing is a carman do you think one of these may be him?they may be to old.
Frederick so far remains a bit of a mystery,all I keep being told is he went to live in Reading after a split with Elizabeth and he may have had family there.
I have tracked down a living son of Elizabeth & Fred , but I am not sure if I should write to him or what to ask him. Do you have any suggestions?
