NOYELL - Marriage in Basingstoke
« on: Wednesday 09 April 08 20:42 BST (UK) »

Hello

I was wondering if anyone could help me out in finding my 5x great grandmother's parents.

Her name was Ruth NOYELL and was baptised in 1804 in Basingstoke. Her father John NOYELL seems to have married Sarah HARMSWORTH in the 1790s and had at least one child (Mary in 1798).

Sarah seems to have died because she has no more children and John has at least two children (Harriote and Ruth born in the early 1800s) with a woman called Mary.

I would love to find a marriage or at least a surname for Mary.
Thank you  Smiley

John Noyell married Sarah Harmsworth 12 Dec 1797 in Basingstoke.

No Noyell burials in Hampshire.

A John Noyell married Elizabeth Ruffle 11 Jan 1823 in Crondall.

No other marriage for John Noyell in Hampshire - at least not in an anglican parish.  I tried a few variants as well.

But there is a document at Winchester conveying two messuages in Allen Lane in Basingstoke. John Noyell, bricklayer is involved as is a Samuel Harmsworth.  Document dated 1826.

Thank you that is very helpful. And it was really good to see that document, I had never seen it before.
Do you think that Sarah just started to call herself Mary for some reason???

Sad  Sorry to say I have no idea.  Are John & Mary still around for the 1841 census?

Unfortunately I can't find them, I suppose they would be a little bit old. Thank you ever so much for looking though, if Sarah doesn't seem to die then perhaps she is Ruth's mother...it's all a little bit confusing isn't it.

Very bizarrely with this family is that the Noyells originated in Warminster and married into the Morgans of Warminster of whom I am also descended from - of course neither knowing that 200 years later their descendants would completely randomly meet again in Fulham, London and marry. It's a complete coincidence.  Cheesy
