:)Hi,
I have found a marriage between Bernard George Dempster and Mary Agnes Hayes 1917, Birkenhead. The thing is, I am trying to find if Mary has been married before. I want to do this before I buy the certificate. I also cannot find a death for Mary Agnes Dempster as this would show her age, and therefore whether she is the person I am looking for. Bernard George was from London, so it is possible that she moved to London from Cheshire. :)thanks very much regards sigrid

Hi sigrid - I looked at the same marriage on CheshireBMD where it shows as a civil marriage in the Birkenhead sub-district. Usually if either party has an alternative surname (eg a previous married name) there will be an * against the entry, which you can then click on to find the "other" name. There is no * for this marriage, which suggests that no previous name was declared (though no doubt there's the possibility of a transcriber omission).

Hi
Re: death - BMD transcriptions for the periods you are looking at are much thinner on the ground. There are no clues to how old she was when they married so even if you found a GRO entry - you would not know if it was the right Mary A Dempster
There is no way you will find the info you want unless you buy the marriage cert. That will give you the following info:
Her marital status at that time
If previously married - her fathers name on the certificate will give you her original maiden name and enable you to look for her previous marriage
Her age - so that when you look for a death you will be able to determine the correct entry
I notice from the birth index that Bernard was only born in 1887 so if Mary A was younger than him she could have lived into the 1950's/1960's

Hi, thanks for your help.
I understand that bmd's for the last century are not all indexed. That's why I was after the death record, as the person I am looking for may have been older than Bernard, so if the ages were similar it wouldn't be her.
I am not on ancestry at the moment or I would look for her death.
thanks very much again for your help, much appreciated, regards, sigrid

Hi, thanks very much for the information about the main libraries, I didn't know they have the gro's and are subscribed to ancestry.
You learn something new every day; my lucky day today for learning this, thanks to you.
Looking at the gro's is taking the long route, but I am not sure on this one, I wanted to wait before I ordered the cert.
thanks very much again, regards sigrid
