Hi there

Thank you so much for that piece of information.  Do you think this place was actually in Lancashire back then?  It's just I've looked it up on the map and it is quite a distance from Wigan.

There is no birth for an Isabella/Elizabeth Clarke around there in about 1842/43.  The only one found was in Wigan.  The mystery just seems to be deepening.  I am now wondering if Stuart Street in Wigan ever existed!

Thanks again
Kim

Hi, There is still a Stuart Street in Wigan and it is quite near Vauxhall Road which you have mentioned.  They are both situated in the Scholes area of Wigan which is adjacent to Ince.  Just one other thought:  could the name 'Megraw' actually be McGrath if someone was taking down info and didn't know how to spell it?  Regards.

Hi there

Thanks ever so much for that.  At least I know the address is for real!

I did wonder if the spelling of her mother's maiden was correct.  Isabella's father, William, being a weaver and her birth certificate being marked with a cross, shows that neither parents could read or write.  If the register asked them to spell the surname, neither of them could have.  Just pronounced it.  I did find, what I thought, could of been their marriage on the IGI, however, I haven't explored that any further.  Maybe I need to.  Of course there could be a variety of spellings for the pronunciation of the name Mcgraw.

Regards
Kim
