Thanks Tati and The Newfster,  Found the 1851 entry interesting, John's brother Samuel born 1824 Granddaughter Edith Shepherd married a Arthur Williams, they were all farmers.  Arthur Williams and Edith Shepherd were my Grandparents.
Was George visitor another brother?

Was George visitor another brother?
Well, it doesn't say  Tongue

He may be Thomas' son but this is a bit of a guess - can't promise this George is the same boy:

1861
RG9/1738 104 19
Bristol St Philip and St Jacob
Facing the Nursery

Thomas Shepland, head, 38, Commercial Clerk, b. Almondsbury
Maria, wife, 38, b. Newland
George Henry, son, 15, b. Newland
Sarah Jane ,dau, 11, b. Littledean
Blanche, dau, 8, b. do.
Ellen Eliza, dau, 7, b. Horsley
Wallace J, son, 4, b. do.
Herbert, son, 1, b. do.

10 years earlier, the family are called Shepherd and George isn't there:

1851
HO107/1959 359 23
Little Dean, Gloucestershire
Gloster Road - Little Dean House of Correction

Thomas Shepherd, head, 28, Governor of Little Dean House of Correction, b. Almondsbury
Maria, wife, 28, matron of Little Dean House of Correction, b. Coleford
Edwin, son, 4, scholar, b. Newnham
Thomas W, son, 2, scholar, b. Little Dean
Sarah Jane, dau, 1, b. do.

Hi Sue,  I did have his baptism but did not know where the address of his parents and occupation.  A added bonus. But not sure what a Victualler does, any ideas?

It was often used as a term for an inn keeper.  Judging by the address I`d say he ran a pub  Grin

Hi

Update on John Adams Shepherd.

Found a marriage between John Adams Shepherd and Mary Ann Bartlet in 1856. They had 2 children Hester Kate born 1859 and Charles Arthur born 1862. John died 1869 in Berkshire, why he moved there I need to find out but being in the police force maybe he was sent there.   His wife and son Charles went to live with her father Stephen Bartlet in Devon,  Mary Ann was born in Cirencestor so father may of retired to Devon. Daughter Hester was a boarder at a school in Gloucestershire on the 1871 census and continued to teach.
