Robert Henderson and family
« on: Monday 07 April 08 19:19 BST (UK) »

Trying to trace Robert Henderson b 26/12/1819 in Moreham, E.Lothian who married initially Agnes (b 28/6/1826 at Carmylie)  nee Addison 22/10/1847 at Arbroath and lived there, after Agnes's death, he remarried Marjory Strachan nee Dewar ( b 15/5/1840 at Dundee) 15/1/1861 again at Arbroath.
He had 5 children, his new wife and his sister, Elisabeth living with him at 1861 census in Arbroath.
However after 1861 I cannot trace him or any of that family from 1861.
Help would be gratefully received to check whether they emigrated.

Hi
I see no one has replied to date
Sadly there are alot of Robert Henderson's, 25 plus in 1893 electoral roll

do you have any children with middle names, that may eliminate some and help trace the family

Hi CR

I have found a daughter Jessie C Henderson in the 1871 Scotland Census, she is a grand daughter living with Agnes Addison aged 72, this would be Robert's first wifes mother HuhHuh

Hopefully this is the right family.

Thanks heaps Christine

Hi CR

Also in the 1871 Scotland Census there is a Marjory Henderson born 1841 Forfar, she is a servant for a Richardson family.  If this is the correct Marjory Henderson could Robert Henderson have passed away before 1871.  Do you have any death dates for Robert or Marjory.

Thanks heaps Christine

Hi Althea,
The children of the 2 marriages were:
Jessie Clarkson Henderson b 1 Jan 1848,
Robert Addison Henderson b 2 May 1851,
Alice J Henderson b 21 Jan 1856,
James Addison Henderson b 8 Nov 1857,
Joseph Gibson Henderson b 10 Jan 1862,
David Dewar Henderson b  23 May 1863 and
George Alexander Henderson  b  18 Dec 1867.
There was another son, James Addison H but he died c1856.
The last 3 were born in Arbroath and the others in St.Vigeans all in Angus/Forfar.
Hope this helps.

Hi CM,
I've no dates for the family other than whats on the 1861 census-surely Marjory would've had the children living with her even if Robert died earlier? Unless they all died except Marjory and Jessie C.

Hi again CM,
Marjory was born 15 May 1840 at or registered at Dundee and was living at Monifieth, Angus in 1851.

Hi CR

Ah ... great that these Henderson children had such distinctive names.   Smiley

I'm guessing that if they had come to NZ as a family,  it is likely some of them would have married here  ?   Alas, none of their names showed up in a check of the NZ Marriage index.

Archives NZ has an army record for a "James Addison HENDERSON - 1914-1918"  .... but given the dates, this won't be the son of Robert .... maybe there is a connection though Huh

Hi Lu,
Yes strange that 1914-18 record, he'd have been in his 50s then but maybe a son or grandson?
