Does anyone have any information on the family and descendants of Alexander Campbell HILL who is buried in St Lukes, Hatfield. He was born in Halkirk, Caithness, Scotland in 1869 and died at Roe Green Farm, Hatfield on 30/12/1945. He was a crofter in Scotland and came down to Herts. in about 1899-1900 to farm. He married twice, in 1900 to Catherine Sandison McLeod who died at Roe Green in 1930, and second, to Bertha Smalley who died in 1966. Both are buried with him. By Catherine he had to my knowledge 1) John HILL, born 1900, died 1/4/1901; 2) Elizabeth (Bessie) HILL, born 1904, died Hatfield 10/5/1917; 3) William HILL; 4) Julia Margaret HILL, born 1902 who I think married some called PIGGOTT. There might have been others including a daughter who married a Mr BALL?? This is all the info I have. Any more info or leads woud be much appreciated. In return I would be happy to do some Scottish research from Edinburgh.
Many thanks, Craig

If your information on their son John is correct, it must have been very close to the time he died. How sad.

Thanks for the very quick reply Jen and for the 1901 census entry which I didn't have. Alexander moved down from Caithness with an older brother William. William settled in Great Gaddesden and I have all William's descendants. His grandson also William moved back to Edinburgh, is a university lecturer and, believe it or not, lives not far from me here! However he has no knowledge of what happened to alexander's family. You have helped with a little more information for me. Thanks very much indeed. Regards, Craig
