wildman family
« on: Tuesday 08 April 08 13:42 BST (UK) »

good evening

I was asked if I am a decendant of the WILDMAN"S.

I did reply that I was.

My great grandfather was Daniel Wildman b 29th Jan 1806.

His father was WILLIAM WILDMAN b 06/Feb/1761.
d 03/july/1831

Mother SUSAN CHAPMAN MARRIED 15TH APRIL 1805.

They were married in AMPTHILL BEDFORDSHIRE.

I  was wondering is there any relatives of this branch of the tree??

Beside WILLIAM'S name are several other names (William;Robert; Thomas; George; George; ?)I take it that these are brothers or parents I don't understand what it means when the names are in brackets like I have.

In my records it seems that this branch of the WILDMANS lived around AMPTHILL; & Bedford

Woukld like to hear from family memebers.  Smiley

Thank you

Kia Ora Aneta
I have a few WILDMANs in my tree!
William bap 1787  Bletsoe = Susannah Farey (Fairy) in 1812 at Riseley Beds  This family occasionally used Wildman (aka Tyler). I have been given various reasons  for this from bastardy to land ownership!

William  and Susannah had 3 confirmed children
Esther bap 1813, George bap June 1815 and Sarah bap Nov 1815. All in Riseley. In 1841 there is a child Mary aged 11 with the couple in Riseley but I can find no Baptism to confirm parentage.

There are quite a few people trying to sort out their Wildman connections!
Good luck!

Hello Aneta,   Like Marlene I have links to the Wildman families of North Beds but not from the Maulden/Ampthill area.  See other topics raised on this family.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,252727.0.html

& Marlene this Mary Wildman ?  have you discounted that she was the one who married Joseph Partridge & per the 1850 marriage cert entry for Joseph Partridge & Mary Wildman her father is named as James. Mary Wildman chr 10/Oct/1830 at Bletsoe, daughter of James & Catherine Bell.  On the same day were christened siblings Ann & William. Catherine Wildman was buried 6 April 1839 so maybe Mary went to live with William & Susannah.

Hi John
Sorry to sound pedantic but I like to have some proof! Now if Catherine died in the time frame that provides another element which I didn't know about!

Are James & William 1787 related?

My problem is that William & Susannah's son George  born c.  1815  could well have had a daughter (illegit ) or ditto his sister Esther!  Or Susannah may have had a late (?) baby at 39 or so!

Unfortunately the 1841 gives no clues! At some stage I'd like to get the death details for Mary Wildman who died June 1848 Beds Reg District but the Wildmans are nowhere near the top of my priority list right now! I would aim for Susannah's death about 22 May 1848 first, then Williams at the beginning of June the same year.

Cheers
Marlene

Wildman burials, sort them out amongst yourselves

Riseley 1 Oct 1847 Frederick age 3+
Riseley 1 Oct 1847 Sarah age 7mths
Riseley 24 May 1848 Susannah age 57
Riseley 4 June 1848 William age 61
Keysoe 6 June 1848 Mary age 80

I don't recall seeing a male having an illegitimate child where the mother isn't named. Usually the child is registered with the mother's surname.

Thanks for the burials David. Willy & Susannah are mine and it looks like the Mary in 1848 is a little too old to be 11 in 1841. Roll Eyes I had thought perhaps there was some epidemic which would have accounted for all their deaths in 1848.

She could well be the Mary baptised to James in 1830 in Bletsoe or a child that Susannah & Willy "forgot" to baptise in Riseley.

Back to the Fairys!
Cheers

Marlene;  Not proof, but coincidental supporting evidence; in addition to Mary being placed with a relative, on 1841 census her sister Ann age 15 is with John Smith & wife Martha (ne Bell) in Bletsoe; & also on 1851 census as niece.

That's fascinating as I have a high number of deaths in Riseley 1847- 1850.

In fact I have noted that as perhaps one of the reasons (along with employment)  for a major exodus of the clan to Northants  and Derbyshire.

My William married in Hunts in 1816 and his brother married 1824 and moved to Yelden.  William lost one teenage daughter from a brood of 8 - the rest lasted until their 80s with the exception of Jane,  97 at death in 1919.  The Hunts clan didn't appear to have the infant mortality nor the deaths of women soon after marriage - perhaps childbirth.

The Yelden family had deaths in the 1840s/50s which is why I was suspicious of an epidemic because they were recorded on censii visiting/staying with Riseley family.

Tomorrow I'll count up the family deaths in the time frame!
Thanks for that info - more grist to the mill!

So had James died too?

No, James was with son George (who had married Ann Allen in Dec 1850) on the 1851 & 1861 census; but I've not found him in 1841.

Thanks. We have access to Ancestry at the Library now (at last) so I'll organise a Caregiver sometime next week and see what i can find!
Interesting the Allens appear in the mix again!

Kia Ora John
I have deleted MARY WILDMAN from my family tree and inserted a note about her appearance with the family on the 1841 accordingly.

Marlene;

Catherine Bell was (possibly) daughter John Bell & Mary ne Hullatt who married 6/6/1785 at Turvey. Catherine was christened at Turvey on 15/Apr/1798 age 5.

Martha Bell b 1801 was daughter of same John Bell & 2nd wife Elizabeth Moor who he married at Chellington 12/10/1796

John Bell & Mary also had a son Thomas chr 8/Jul/1785 Turvey, & he married Sarah Farey 28/05/1806 at Felmersham.

Witnesses at marriage of James Wildman of Riseley to Catherine Bell of Radwell on 4/6/1817 were Kezia Bell & Thomas Grindon.  Kezia b 1799 being yet another daughter of James & Elizabeth. This pair also witnessed the marriage of another son, Samuel Bell to Martha Swannell on 11/9/1818 at Felmersham.

Also Thomas Bell & Catherine Bell witnessed the marriage of William Fairy of Radwell to Mary Chambers of Radwell on 28/02/1813 at Felmersham.

Regards John
