Hi
I am looking for some information about the Nursaw family from Simpson. I thought with such an unusual name, this would be relatively easy but unfortunately there are so many transcription errors (understandably) and different variations of spellings, I'm really struggling.
I know Ru(e)ben Nursaw married Leah Major in 1815 and their daughter was Mary Ann (b 17-10-1819) I have not been able to trace any other children for them.
However I have now found Rueben in 1841 married to Elizabeth with a child Leonard (1833) and in 1851 with a daughter Elizabeth (1832) and son George (1841). I know this is definately my relative as in 1841 Mary Ann's daughter was living with them
I am therefore trying to find the following:
When did Leah Nursaw die? When did Rueben marry Elizabeth?
I also believe that Rueben's parents were William and Mary but I cant find a marriage for them either (Rueben was born in 1793)
I have found the surname spelt Nassau/Nursall/Nassall - just to name a few variations
Any assistance would be very much appreciated

Hi,
Are they the family in 1841 transcribed as MARSHELL HO107/59/7 f.4 p.5?
If so then Leonard's age is in the female column
I can't find any other reference to Leonard before or after 1841 so I wonder if as well as changing NURSAW/NASSAU etc to MARSHELL, Elizabeth got changed to Leonard when the household forms were transcribed into the enumerators books
This looks like the birth reg. for George, if you want to get the cert. and find out Elizabeth's maiden name,
George NASSAU Sep Q 1841 Newport Pagnell v.6 p.349
I also found that the Buckinghamshire FHS has a page for Simpson offering searches for £1.00 or £3.00, very reasonable

Hi Daisy
Thanks for your reply.
Yes thats them in 1841 transcribed as Marshell - I didn't notice 'Leonard's' age was in the female section - ummm!!!
I had real trouble finding them in the census records which I have put down to the spelling of the name. I found them in 1851 (although not Leonard) and then thats it.
I may need to order George's birth cert, this will at least tell me whether his father did marry for a second time.
I think I may also need to contact the Bucks FHS for some help as well.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into this for me

Hi Daisy
How did I miss that
Thank you so much - this is a great help - not been able to find the death record yet so I think this will now narrow the search down to 1861-1871.
I was half asleep though so I'll have a more thorough look tonight. Thanks for all your help
Anne-Marie
Edit: Think I've just found his death in 1861 registered as Nusshow.,

I have in my records for the Major family:
Leah Major bapt 28 Feb 1796 Woughton on the Green married Reuben Nuttall 30 Nov 1815 Woughton on the Green.
I don't know anything about Reuben and his family but I do have Leah's ancestry if it is of interest.

Hi Daisy
Thanks for all your help - its amazing what you can miss I've re-visited several brick walls only to find the answer was staring me in the face the whole time
David - you very kindly provided me with Leah's details a few years ago which was very much appreciated.
Have you managed to progress your tree back any further? The last entry I have for the Majors is Thomas c1620 and Mary?

My tree has a lot more branches but I haven't managed to take the Majors back beyond Thomas

Hi Tazzie
Many thanks for the baptism and burial information. This has been a great help to me as I had been unable to find any other children born to Rueben and Leah.
If its not too much trouble, would you mind checking for a marriage for William and Mary please? I believe these are the parents of Rueben and would have married c1780.
David: Thank you also for your message and the updated version of your tree you kindly sent me.
