Here's a lovely snippet that was posted by Rene Anderson on the Dumfries Rootsweb mailling list.

Carlisle Journal

Marriage 6 March 1819.  Hollas [Hollows] Parish of Canonbie - John Lattimer aged 81 to Janet French aged 78 after a courtship of 56 years.


And another which would raise a few eyebrows!

Carlisle Patriot

Marriage 3 March 1821, Annan, William Lawson aged 73 to Miss Lawson aged 19.
