Hi
I would just like to say how lucky you are in Essex to have such kind staff in your record office. I recently e-mailed them about an enquiry. I was scanned a photocopy form and a digital image form to fill in for two different types of record. I sent off the filled-in forms and waited.
Yesterday I got a phone call from the lady at the record office. She had phoned to ask me if I really wanted to pay for both copies, as one of them was just really an index, giving the number of the other record giving more information. I was quite stunned, as I live in Cumbria, that she had taken the time to contact me, instead of just doing it and charging me for both.
Not having had this experience with many record offices, I would like to applaud the staff there. While I'm mentioning it, another record office who were helpful were Norwich Millenium Library who scanned me a newspaper report, without charge from 1853 about my gr x3 grandfather.
If only they were all like that
Rosemary

I couldn't agree more Rosemary.
The ERO staff are all very friendly and helpful. I've often bought fiche from them and if a fiche has only book ends or title pages on it, they don't include it in a set. Also, they respond very quickly to e-mail enquiries.
I think generally staff in all record offices are highly trained in customer service and it really does show.
If we're talking awards I'd definitely give one to Essex RO, Gloucestershire RO, Herefordshire RO, Glamorganshire RO and Somerset RO. All of them a pleasure to visit.

I agree with what has been said. The staff at ERO are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had only 2 hrs in Chelmsford immediately before Christmas but after a bit of email contact the original documents we wanted to see were waiting for us to look at. The whole place is admirably equipped.

I recently went to the Devon Records Office for the first time, with my mum. My mum had been before and said the staff were wonderful. She found what she was looking for and was told they would look into it further. A few days later she had a phone call to say they had found what she needed plus other things of interest, hence my visit with her. I must say the help we received was incredible. They certainly knew their job and more. They were getting quite excited with us!
