anything is possible and probably all the bd are off as well as the English names.
IGI has a member submittal for
Ogle Sa Red Shirt (male) b. 1871 Rosebud Dist. Sioux Nation, South Dakota Mother: Good Looking Face {IteOwanyangWaste]
Similar but not exact to 1895 (pg 4 of thread) entry for a dau Mary [OgleSa] and son Good Boy w/ "Waste" in his name

For all the ones I checked, the IGI records are all member submissions -- no surprise there I guess !!! Lot's of redundant entries but Lots of Sioux names indicated.
IGI has Joseph Red Shirt m. to In Sight in 1882 Rosebud Dist. Sioux Nation, Washauba, SD
Did not find In Sight listed individually yet. Was hoping to find a parent name (seems to be rarely indicated)
Re: the Nellie found often m. to a Red Shirt -- a surname of "Buckman" was found a couple of times. I suppose this could be either a white name or a Sioux name

YES!!! YOU NAILED IT!!!
http://www.bigorrin.org/sioux_kids.htm
QUOTE Sioux warriors and chiefs were well-known for their impressive feathered warbonnets, but they didn't wear them in everyday life. Both Sioux men and women wore their hair long, cutting it only when they were in mourning. There were many different traditional Sioux hairstyles, but long braids were the most common. Men often wrapped their braids in fur or tied quillwork strips around them. UNQUOTE
EXCELLENT!!! and even more compelling!

Great stuff. I haven't gotten any notification of replies to this, so have missed quite a bit.
Annie, I am absolutely happy to contact the great-grandson if you like. I can't imagine he would be insulted. I would be honored if someone was this interested in one of my ancestors. What would you like asked?
And Lissa, thanks for the link.

I sent off an email to what I think is his address. It hasn't bounced back yet, so keeping my fingers crossed. I gave him this thread to come to, to see what we have researched. Let's see if we hear from him.
Fingers crossed.

Welcome, Wilmer !!!
Would be so incredible to hear first hand the more personal details of this fascinating man's life....the things we won't find in census reports or snippets found elsewhere!
I am assuming that Wilmer is way too young to have known his great grandfather in person but hopefully the oral tradition has held forth!
So exciting!!
