Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew if there were records available for Middlesbrough Union Workhouse.
My Great Great grandmother died there in 1902.
I would like to know when and why she went into the workhouse and whether her children were with her.
I have her on the 1891 census, her marriage in November 1891 and the birth of her kids in 1892, 1894 and 1895 and the death of her husband in 1895. She was living at 41 Stapylton Street Grangetown until at least 1895. I cannot find her or 2 of the children in on the 1901 census.
If records are available would sks be able to look her up please.
She would have been there at the earliest in 1895 and she died on July 8th 1902.
Her name was Jane Williams (nee Thomas), born 1872 in Witton Park, Durham. She would have been a widow and her children were Margaret, born 1892, Martha Jane (aka Pattie) born 1894 and Rachel, born 1895, all the children were born at 41 Staplyton Street, Grangetown.

I am sure that there are some records at Teesside Achieves, if mum is going again I will ask her to look for you.
I am now sat starting at page one of the 1901 census for the Middlesbrough Workhouse, will let you know if I find anything

I have looked at the 1901 Mbro workhouse and can't find them....sorry should have said that in the above post.... Having said that I know how good you are at finding my Williams'!!!

One of the boys in Sam's football team has a father who works in Teesside Acheives  I will see him week on Sunday at away match in Catterick, leave it with me and i will ask him if he can have a look

Thank you for that info, I guess if I can at least find out when Jane entered the workhouse I can at least account for her whereabouts during that time. Hopefull they'll have recorded more info though!!! Wishful thinking!!!
