WALKER from Ballinfull, Co Sligo
« on: Friday 31 July 09 16:26 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

I am looking for birth/baptism of a Matthew Robert Walker born around 1869; on the 1911 census says that his birthplace was 'Bollinfull resident, Sligo'.

He moved to Lancashire prior to 1891 where he was a poiceman, & married at Walton on the Hill in 1893. The marriage says his father was Thomas Charles Walker.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Regards
John

from the familysearch Irish Civil index at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

 record type: Birth
 Name: Mathew Walker
 Registration district: Sligo
 year: 1866
 volume: 7 / page: 334

(it is actually listed as Mathew Walker Walker, which I assume is a typo or mistranscription) You can order a cert by post from the GRO using these details - see www.groireland.ie

The registration district of Sligo covers the town and some surrounding areas. One of the townlands listed for the district is named 'Ballinphull' - which could be the place he listed on census. see the townland database at www.seanruad.com (registration districts are equivalent to Poor Law Unions or PLU)

His father Thomas seems to listed on Griffiths Valuation (a Land Taxation Survey) :

Thomas Walker, Ballinphull townland, Drumcliff Civil Parish

He is listed jointly with a John Walker and leasing 'House & Offices' along with 46 acres of land. This entry is dated 1856

The Griffiths data is available on : http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

Thank you Shane for that good info

That birth is on the IGI (at FamilySearch) as 20 June 1866 - 0334, Carney, Sligo. Ireland On the IGI.  Carney very near to Ballinfull.  The parents are listed as Thomas Walker & Margaret Payne.

That marriage is also on IGI being on 8 Mar 1847 ,,,Ireland & it may be the one listed on the FamilySearch pilot as Sligo vol 10 page 181 in 1847.

Thanks for the link to Griffiths valuation index.

I am told Matthew had a brother who was a vicar - but don't know who, where, when ....

regards John
