Stokes Family
« on: Saturday 30 December 06 02:04 GMT (UK) »

Hi:
New here, but am looking to find any information about the Stokes family. Father William John (1839-??) married Ann Lucas 1860 in Dudley. She died ?? 1880.
They had 6 children: Florence E (1860), Frederick W (1863), Mary/Margaret Ellen (1867), George H (1870),Walter Lucas (1872), and Albert E (1879).

William John Stokes listed as Master saddler from Dudley or Warwickshire.
My grandfather (Walter Lucas) and his sister Margaret (Mary) were sent to Canada with Dr. Middlemore's Home Children program.

Perhaps Frederick was sent to Australia.

I am looking for any information about them or anyone who might be related to them or know when they died and/or where they were buried.

Thanks

William John does not appear on any Census after this one.  So I did a check of the death Indexes and found the following :-

There is a death for an Ann STOKES aged 41 Dec Quarter 1880 Aston Birmingham  6d 87.
Also a death for a William John STOKES aged 0 Mar Quarter 1881 Aston Birmingham 6d 170 and a death for William  John STOKES aged 42 June Quarter 1881 Aston 6d 202.  This could well be wife Ann who most probably died in childbirth with William John Junior who died soon after, and your William John.

Albert E STOKES appear on the 1891 Census as an inmate of the Sir Josiah Masons Orphanage, but I have not found him on the 1901 Census yet.

Not that it helps...but this likely was one more birth
Birth Sept. Q. 1867
Harry Lucas Stokes    Aston   v.6d   p.327
Death Sept. Q 1868
Harry Lucas Stokes  0   W. Bromwich  v.6b  p. 470

Marriage in 1908 Birmingham for an Albert Edward...
marriage 1910 for a Frederick William in Aston ( the one in 1910 might be a Frederick Charles)
1910 for a Florence E. in Birmingham
The 1911 should certainly have some news for you...
