A pleasing result!

I imagine the Ministry of Justice are technically the successors to whoever administered Lincoln Castle as a jail when the records were initially made.

Lincolnshire Echo has published another update today on the story.  The volumes will be permanently housed in Lincolnshire Archives where they will be available for public view.

Thank you Rover  and Jo for the recent updates.
Good news all round, and what I consider a fair result - see the last paragraph of the online Echo:
"A goodwill payment for expenses and custodianship is being agreed by the Ministry of Justice, Lincolnshire County Council and the vendor
and will be paid from the county council's purchase fund - a fund built up by donations from members of the public at county council heritage sites."
In a way, we are very lucky that the guy did put the documents up for auction - he could so easily have thought they were a load of rubbish and just binned them - so I have no objection with him receiving the money.
And re the money, I hope that all the members of the public who were up in arms about the documents being sold now put their money where their mouths were and donate a fiver to the fund. (County Offices, Newland, Lincoln LN1 1YL )

I had a message from Lincs Archives today to say they have catalogued all the records and they are now available for members of the public to search through them.

They added that some of the items will be temporarily withdrawn so that they can be displayed in the new acquisions exhibition at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln later this month.

That's wonderful news - wish I was a bit nearer so I could see them. They look to be in superb condition, and very interesting. Thanks for keeping us updated; I was only wondering about them yesterday.
