Does anybody know this family?
I am trying to locate my Scottish relatives who sailed from Southampton England to New Zealand, I am guessing after the WW1.
We have a letter stating all these facts but no dates.
Barbara McPherson married Wes Morris a N.Z soldier son of a minister.
The whole family came? We are not sure if it is McPherson family or Andersons family.
They lived around Auckland area all their life.
How do I get to search any records for New Zealand?

I am supposing that Barbara married her NZ soldier in ... perhaps England ? (If a "war bride", then it's possible that she travelled to NZ, independently of her new husband - that is to say, they may not appear together on a shipping passenger list).
You could try searching this site for members of the MORRIS / McPHERSON and / or ANDERSON families who travelled as a group to NZ.

Helpers here can possibly point you in the direction of NZ records for your family / families .... we need some more detail from you though.

Yes I do have some info on the McPherson/ Anderson families, nothing more for the Wes Morris, the letter states they all travelled together from Southampton to New Zealand to Aukland, and the other families[Georges brother who re married the Anderson] went to see them all off.
Barbara McPherson [Macpherson]b 1874-1875 Scot married after 1891 census Wes Morris unknown where......possibly Eng Scotland. The father Morris was a well known minister??
Father George McPherson born c 1844 Avoch, Scot
Wife /mother Isabella ? possible.
Son/ brother George McPherson c 1879 b Fife Scot
[Now this Barbara Mcpherson may have married an Anderson and her daughter married the Wes? letter is not all that clear but Anderson was mentioned in letter, found Georges Brother re married an Anderson so have pressumed that was the link.]
Do N.Z have access to war records..attestation papers?
Hope this is not too confussing.......LOL.....COZ IT IS!!

Yep .... frightfully confusing. 
But now that you've given Barbara's d.o.b. - I think we can assume that SHE was NOT the bride of Wes MORRIS !
Somebody on this board may have access to the "War Census CD" - nominal rolls etc. for WW1 - which may turn up a "Wes MORRIS" ??
Yes, Archives NZ (in Wellington) hold military records. I did a quick online check for a "W" "Wesley" "Weston" etc. MORRIS - with no luck. You might like to search further ?

It's possibly helpful that you have the place name "Onehunga" - (pronounced O-nee-hunga ... in case you were wondering) - but not in the case of ANDERSON or McPHERSON - christian names are needed.
So do you have a letter or some other reference (a time frame) which puts the family in this particular area ??

The letter was written1974 to a cousin living in Australia, she mentions two dates 15 Nov 1873 and 16 Dec 1956, looking at this it could very well be Barbara's birth and death date ? ? would have made her 83yrs....only a guess but something to grab hold of.
She went on to say she still hears from Mary and Ella sisters??? who and where from no idea?
She then says Bessie wouldn't know anymore than me, she is the same age as me,...ME ..LOL... was born 1895, she also married a soldier WW1 in Eng and came to Aust.
I am now thinking it was Mrs Andersons daughter who married Wes Morris.
This is why I decided to follow up on Wes Morris to get the clues to narrow down the search......if that is possable?

So you think Barbara McPherson was, at the time of sailing to NZ, in fact known as "Barbara ANDERSON" ?
I've found a cremation record at Purewa Cemetery, Auckland, for a Barbara ANDERSON - died 29 April 1962 - aged 87 .... born c. 1875 (which seems to match the date you gave earlier) ?

The "ancestorsonboard" website shows a "B. ANDERSON - female - b. 1875 - from Southampton to Wellington NZ - 1922". May be the same person - maybe not ?
Did the letter which was written in 1974, come from Onehunga in New Zealand ? (Is there a street address ?) Who wrote the letter ?

Sorry no address letter was written in Aust to Aust giving details of the family in New Zealand.
Thank you for all your help and THE excellent sites you mentioned, have been scrolling all night, but unfortunately cannot narrow anything down.
I feel I have to find this New Zealand soldier 'Wes Morris' to get further clues as to who the girl he married was, then I can identify more positively.
No luck on national archives for Wes, do they not have WW11 on that site?

Mmm ... I think your man was in fact
Wesley NORRIS (rather than "Morris").
And that being the case, I have quite a lot of info for him.

The death record for Elizabeth Barbara, should give you the "best" information (if it is the ANDERSON family you're seeking info for ?). See NZ BDM website for details.
