I should add that a copy of the birth certificate of one of the children in Victoria should render some most helpfull information for you
You can order a copy on line and down load to you computer for 17.50
it should will say where and when the parents were born and where and when married, this is what information is contatined on Vic Birt certificates
Births for Victoria
Date and place of birth; name of child and whether present or not; name of parents (including mother's maiden name); occupation of parents; ages and birthplace of parents; date and place of marriage of parents; previous children of their marriage noting living or deceased; signature, description and address of the person who gave the information; names of witnesses; date and place of registation. a browse of the 1851 census for england
turns up a strong possiblity for George Bristow born 1845 in Chelsea England
father is William H Bristow born 1812 in Surrey and mother Winnifred Bristow born 1812 in Ireland. The parents names certainly feature in the childrens names.

Theresa, if George jumped ship, he may be on a Ships' Deserters list for whichever state he deserted. You would need to be able to check these records at the relevant Library or Archive. For example, in South Australia, this can be done at the National Archives in Adelaide or the SAGHS library at Unley. Unfortunately I live too far away from either to offer to look for you.
Re Elizabeth's birth place on her death certificate.....that may or may not be accurate. Information on death certifcates can often be quite inaccurate. My gg-grandfather's Western Australian death certifcate has him being born in Birmingham, England when in actual fact he was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
