Can anyone tell me , is there somewher I can look up the passenger lists of passengers travelling from Australia to UK. I have just discovered one of my ancestors travelled to Australia on two occasions, (1949 & 1951) so he must have returned at some point in between!! I'd love to know when.
Thank You, Gill
(not sure what happened to my last post on the subject?)
I don't know what is held in Australian records, but there are records held at Kew - unfortunately not indexed, although I believe that they are planning to index them at some point (there's a PDF floating somewhere about on the internet with a list of sources from Kew which are to be digitised, and the schedules, but of course now I can't find it again).
There's always the possibility that the 1949 record is a red herring - that he was booked to sail on that ship but didn't for some reason.
Thanks. I've obtained quite a few bits of information from the Australian records. He definately sailed in 1949 : I have copies of his application form, the medical examination record from Australian house and his Document of identity stamped when leaving Southampton and again when arriving in Freemantle, Australia. There was such a lot of information on the documents and on the passenger record of the ship, that I never doubted his emigration. It was just a fluke that I discovered his sailing again two years later!!! I'll keep looking for his return ship. (or even ships, who knows!!)
