I was wondering if SKS has access to any court or newspaper reports of this period.
I am researching William Osborne who was tried at he Satffordshire Quarter sessions in April 1842 and sentenced on the 6th of April to 7 years transportation.
All I have been able to find out is that the crime was stealing tools. Any additional inforamtion would be welcomed.
He was born c 1826 in Leek.
He was transported as an exile on the Maitland in 1846.
Hi Robyn, It might be worth you emailing the William Salt Library, in Stafford. I recently asked them if they could look somethng up for me in the Staffordshire Advertiser, which was probably the main newspaper at that time in the area, and because I had a definite date they looked within a few days of the date given. Just checked - The Staffordshire Advertiser was circulating at that time. The email address is: william.salt.library at staffordshire.gov.uk * replace at with @ Hope this helps + good luck. Kind regards, Paulene
