West Cranmore
« on: Thursday 10 April 08 21:49 BST (UK) »

Hi,
I have tracked my family back to this area using the usual census material but have yet to get a chance for a visit.  The line here is split between Lane, Gane, Selway and maybe Trippick.  Has anyone done any work on these in that area or has information about the area generally that would be of interest (I know that they had links to the Oakhilll Brewery).

                  Thanks, Adrian.

Hi

I'm sorry , I don't have any information for you as such, however just to let you know of a lovely little book, printed in 1985, of which I have a copy. It is called " A Cranmore Chronicle " by Mary de Viggiani, and has references and photos of members of the Lane, Gane and Selway families, although from the early part of the 20th century.  The only other copy of this book I have seen is in Shepton Mallet Library, if you are ever in the area. Hope this helps just a little.

Hello there,

I have just seen this and have a keen interest in West Cranmore, having ancestors there for hundreds of years.

The names Gane and Lane are known to me and I have these inmy tree. I am in touch with others who are related to these too.

Have you seen www.cranmore-somerset.co.uk ? Click on the History section and look at the Mary de Viggiani links.

Send me a PM for more information.
